Transit Nerd Workshop was started by Simon Herrera, who has worked in public transit since 1989. He started as a coach operator and worked his way through dispatch, supervision, operations management and general management before moving into public-agency leadership. More than 30 years later, transit is still what he knows, what he talks about and a big part of who he is.
More than 30 years in transit taught him that the real stories go far beyond pullouts, radio calls and road reliefs. They are about the people solving problems before most riders wake up and the leaders shaping those people, for better or worse. There are micromanagers who make a hard job harder, people with titles who never learned how to lead and mentors who pull you aside, tell you the truth and teach you the business.
